Afterchat Privacy Policy

Afterchat is a personal-memory app. Your saved memories live on your device. To turn what you say into organized notes, and to read name cards, some content is sent to AI services for processing. This policy explains exactly what leaves your device and what does not.

In short: your saved memories are stored only on your device. Transcript text and name-card images are sent for AI processing and may be retained briefly by our AI provider for abuse monitoring. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no data sales.

What stays on your device

Every saved memory — people, facts, follow-ups, conversation history, and attached images — is stored only in the app's local storage on your device.
Afterchat has no accounts, no sign-in, and no cloud database. We cannot see your saved memories.
Audio recordings are never saved or transmitted by Afterchat.

Speech recognition

Voice debriefs are transcribed by Apple's speech recognition built into iOS. Afterchat requests on-device recognition when your device and chosen language support it. If on-device recognition is unavailable, iOS may send the audio to Apple's speech-recognition servers for processing, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Afterchat receives only the resulting text.

What is sent for AI processing

Transcript text — when you tap “Extract with AI,” the text of your debrief is sent over HTTPS to our server function and processed by Anthropic's Claude model to organize it into details.
Name-card images — when you scan a name card, that image is sent the same way so the AI can read the printed details. The image may contain the contact information of the person on the card (name, job title, company, phone, email, address).
These requests are used only to provide the feature. Afterchat does not store them on any server, and they are not used for advertising, profiling, or tracking.
Our AI provider may retain the content of these requests for a limited period (up to 30 days) for safety and abuse monitoring before deletion, in line with its standard API policy. We do not control that retention window.

Contacts and notifications

Contacts access is requested only when you tap “Save to Contacts,” and is used solely to create that one contact. Afterchat never reads or uploads your address book.
Follow-up reminders are scheduled locally on your device. No reminder content is sent anywhere.

What we don't do

No analytics or tracking SDKs.
No ads.
No sale or sharing of personal data.
No accounts, so nothing you save is linked to your identity by us.

Your control

Nothing is sent for AI processing unless you tap to extract or scan.
Export everything at any time: Settings → “Export data (JSON backup).”
Delete any person, any attachment, or erase everything: Settings → “Erase all data.” Deleting the app also removes all data.

Children

Afterchat is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
